A Rush of Blood to the Head (Coldplay, 2002)

The Coldplay record like any other Coldplay record, only it has “In My Place”, “Clocks”, and “The Scientist” to boot, which are exceptions by themselves. A Rush of Blood to the Head is scrummily sentimental, striking in its sappiness to the point of considering disownment. Tears from this album are enough to provide Manila residents their one-year supply of water. And that’s probably why most fans hate to admit they like Coldplay—the way sentimentality has always been regarded as sinful—but time will come when closets will be full of nits and roaches that they will eventually come out. Till then, this will stay. Definitive upon its release; now it still is.
