♪ Swim (Surfer Blood, 2009) ♪

To tell you frankly, it’s not one of the most attractive titles to pique my interest, considering I don’t swim at all and taking a bath isn’t the time of the day I most look forward to, but “Swim”, the first single off Surfer Blood’s debut, does have the hots for adventure. Catchy is the way the chorus Swim to reach the end plays over and over—the heavy bass lines and drums complementing the riff—and the easy guitar-playing in the middle, like an icepack for headache, brings to mind flying beach balls and sunny surf boards. The track smacks of euphoric geekiness, cleverly structured and layered, which feels very engaging to the point of exhaustion.
